LUPE participates in a national meeting on immigration

ALTON — Rio Grande Valley organizations are listen to hear a national town hall meeting with Illinois representative Luis Gutierrez this Wednesday to discuss what the next steps are towards a comprehensive immigration reform.

According to Martha Sanchez, La Union del Pueblo Entero’s organizer, LUPE members and all neighbors can hear the town hall meeting in English at 6:45 pm and Spanish at 7:45 pm in the four LUPE’s offices.

The event will take place as a part of national movement to inform the country about the urgent need to push for an immigration reform that allows a path to citizenship for more that 12 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S.

Sanchez says that LUPE, ARISE and other local organizations are part of the Reform Immigration Texas Alliance (RITA) which is member of Reform Immigration for America, a national coalition of local organizations and state coalitions supporting immigration reform.

Last weekend some tea parties were organized in different states opposing what they call an amnesty to undocumented immigrants that the immigration reform can bring.
