SALTILLO, Mexico — After an Honduras worker was accused of stabbing his former employer, a wave of anti-immigrant sentiment has evolved in Northern Mexico where a representative is filing a bill to control the sanctuary houses, affirming they might be hiding criminals not protecting immigrants.

In a story run by the online magazine Avenida 24, a wave of hate, anti-immigrant sentiments and bills, has evolved here.

Reyes Gustavo ArdónAccording to Avenida 24, Reyes Gustavo Ardón Alfaro, a Honduran immigrant, purportedly stabbed and killed his former employer Perla Judith Quintero, and left Leslie Flores, a house keeper, in critical condition, last September 30 in Saltillo, the capital city of Coahuila state.

A Mexican State District Attorney said to Milenio newspaper that Ardón was “illegally in Mexico” and he was going to have a trial before being deported to Honduras.

Acording to the District Attorney Ardón pleaded guilty and said he was trying to steal two laptops from Quintero’s house. Ardón could face a 50-year prison sentence.
A further discussion followed the case, because Carlos Ulises Orta, a state representative, filed a bill to regulate the immigrant sanctuaries in Coahuila, saying those houses use the civil rights as an argument to protect people “staying illegally” from the Mexican Immigration Police.

“We cannot allow people with criminal background to stay in those places,” say Orta to the local newspaper Vanguardia.

Avenida 24 said several hate crimes against Honduras immigrants have taken place in Saltillo since the two women were stabbed by Ardón Alfaro. It also said that pro-immigrant organizations have received threats.
